CONSERVATION TOUR:

This year’s Conservation Tour will be at Old Town Waverly Park, located at 8425 Main Street, Martinsville, IN 46151.  It should be noted that, while a Martinsville address, the park is located just south of Waverly.

This beautiful park is a treat to visit if you have not done so yet! With paved and mulched walking and hiking trails, you can explore more than 30 acres of natural spaces alongside the beautiful White River. This time of year, the park is decorated in a festive fall theme and is a great spot to capture a photo of your favorite little pumpkin!   Work has begun to remove invasive plants from the park and plant natives in their places. There are several restored buildings that will give you the feel of what the old town of Waverly might have looked like to early settlers and many fun public events are held there.

We are honored to have Kat Kimball from Paws, Wings, and Other Things to join us that evening and introduce us to Peanut the Opossum! The organization has made it their mission to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned, injured, or sick native Indiana wildlife and return them back into their natural habitat, as well as educate the public about wildlife and promote their conservation.

Ray Major is a well renowned tree planting expert! We are pleased that he has agreed to join us for the evening and share his knowledge on locating, gathering, storing, and preparing tree seed for direct seeding with us. Using some of what we learn, we will take a hike and plant some tree seeds in the areas cleared of invasive plants at a recent Weed Wrangle! Check out the Trees from Seeds Facebook page!

The evenings events will be outdoors, weather permitting, and registration and check-in will begin at 4:45 pm. Should we have rain in the forecast, we will notify you of changes made to the tour.
